Route 66 Centennial: Celebrate the Journey in 2026!
A Historic Legacy
Established in 1926, Route 66 quickly became the Main Street of America, connecting small towns and big cities across the nation. Its nostalgic charm, iconic roadside attractions, and rich cultural significance have made it a symbol of the American road trip. Kingman established itself as the Heart of Historic Route 66 in 1993, early in the resurgence of the famous highway. The city is like a charm strung into the longest remaining continuous stretch of Hwy 66 still in existence. Kingman has embraced its Route 66 heritage, preserving and promoting its history through dedicated efforts that resonate with visitors from around the world.

The inaugural Kingman Route 66 Fest was held that October, drawing an estimated 7,000 attendees. The festival celebrates the culture, history, and future of Route 66 with live music, food, and family-friendly activities. The event is set to become one of the top Route 66 celebrations by 2026.
Kingman Tours Plaza
In 2022, Kingman Main Street partnered with the city to create a Route 66 Plaza featuring a bronze statue of local historian and author Jim Hinckley. This plaza serves as the starting point for self-guided Kingman Tours, a virtual auditory experience that immerses visitors in the town’s history.
Guardian Angel of Route 66
In 2023, Kingman joined forces with the Historic Route 66 Association of Arizona to install an interactive exhibit honoring Angel Delgadillo, the Seligman, Arizona barber whose efforts sparked the highway’s revitalization in the 1980s.
